Emergency passport

When a Norwegian citizen has lost his passport, the Embassy may issue an emergency passport so that the person in question can return to Norway. The person must immediately report the theft to the police and obtain a police report.

Required information:

  • Name.
  • Personal identification number (11 digits) and place of birth.
  • When and at which police station in Norway the previous passport was issued.
  • Registered place of residence in Norway.

Required documentation:

  • Personal ID.
  • Police report from the Egyptian police.
  • 2 passport photos with white background and mouth closed.

How to proceed after submitting the application:

  • You need to appear in person when claiming your passport.
  • If time is short, an emergency passport (handwritten laminated passport) can be issued for one journey only (or for the period in which your regular passport is being processed). The issuing authority is the Embassy in Cairo.
  • When an emergency passport is issued to you, you need to apply for a temporary visa with the Egyptian immigration authority (Mugamma). Tourists may pay at the airport when leaving the country.

Fees (to be paid in cash):

  • Passport application: 415 EGP (children under 16 years 250 EGP).
  • Fees are subject to change according to current exchange rates.
