Passport

Last updated: 11/10/2010 // How to apply for a new passport at the Norwegian Embassy.

  • The passport will be issued in Norway, and the process takes around four weeks.
  • The applicant must appear in person. Applicants over the age of 12 are required to submit fingerprints. Children under 18 years must have the consent of both parents. One parent’s consent is enough if the parent has sole parental responsibility.
  • Applications for passports should be submitted in the country of residence. The Embassy can receive applications from Norwegian citizens living outside Egypt in cases where it is particularly difficult for the applicant to appear in person at the Police in Norway or at the foreign service mission in the country where the applicant lives.
  • The name of the applicant must be registered with the National Registry. Applications for change of name should be sent to your local tax office in Norway.

What to submit:

  • Valid ID.
  • Completed application form (available at the Embassy).
  • The necessary power of attorney if the passport application is for a child.
  • Children under the age of 10 must submit a passport photo.
  • Previous passports must be handed in when receiving the new passport.

For children who have not previously had a Norwegian passport:

  • Birth certificate (showing both parents` names).
  • Passports of both parents.
  • Children under the age of 10 must submit a passport photo.
  • Any other document confirming Norwegian citizenship (e.g. letter of citizenship).

For applicants who do not have a personal identification number:

  • Egyptian birth certificate translated into English by the Egyptian Ministry of Health and legalized by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The document will be legalized by the Embassy.
  • Copy of parents’ passports.
  • If the parents’ marriage is not registered in Norway, their marriage certificate translated into English by the Egyptian Ministry of Justice and legalized by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs must be submitted. The document will be legalized by the Embassy.
  • Both parents must appear in person with the child.

The processing time for personal identification number is 2-3 months.
