Practical procedures for visa application

Application

A Schengen visa is necessary for travel to Norway. You may apply for a Schengen visa at the Norwegian Embassy if Norway is your main destination within the Schengen area. If you do not have a main destination, you must apply for a visa at the foreign service mission of the Schengen country where the initial entry is to take place. Unless you make other arrangements with the foreign service mission, you must appear in person and bring your valid travel document. With the exception of certain financial documentation, documents must be submitted in English.

The visa fee is equivalent to EGP 450,- and should be paid in advance upon application. The fee is not refunded in case the visa is rejected. Children need individual visa stickers and pay the same fee as adults.

What to submit

·         One copy of visa application form completely filled in and signed, and one recent passport-size photo with white background. Please indicate your phone numbers and e-mail address.

·         Passport or travel documents, which must be valid for at least three months after the expiration date of the visa to be applied for. The passport or travel documents must be recognized by all parties to the Schengen Agreement.

·         Valid travel insurance for the entire trip plus 15 days extra

·         Proof establishing the purpose of trip (letter of invitation, official invitation, participation in group travel).

·         Proof that you can and will continue your trip after your visit to the Schengen countries (a confirmed flight reservation and itinerary should be submitted with the visa application; after the visa is approved you will need to show an original airline ticket).

·         Proof of sufficient funds. For holiday trips, bank statements for the last six months legalized by the Central Bank, letter of employment. For business trips, commercial registration, tax and ID card are needed (these are accepted in Arabic).

·         Proof of accommodation, i.e. hotel reservation. If you are staying with family or friends, an official guarantee form for visits should be submitted which is signed by the concerned family members or friends and stamped by the local police in the relevant Schengen country.

·         If the applicant is a minor travelling alone, written consent of the parent(s) or guardian having custody of the child. The signatures on this document must be notarized.

        ·         One copy of all original documents.

In individual cases more documents may be required.

Processing

An application for a visitor's visa is processed in one of two ways:

1.       The application is processed at the foreign service mission
The visa processing normally takes 2-6 weeks.  You will be notified of the decision by SMS.

2.       The application is processed by the Directorate of Immigration
The foreign service mission sends the application to the Directorate of Immigration in Norway. This process may take several months. The foreign service mission will be informed of the outcome by the Directorate, and will pass this information on to you.

If your application is rejected, you may appeal within three weeks of being informed of the decision. You must send your appeal through the foreign service mission.

If your application is accepted, please send flight tickets to the Embassy by fax or e-mail at your earliest convenience. A visa is issued by affixing a visa sticker either in your passport or in an officially approved identity document, or by means of a special document.

Young men should note that they need to provide their certificate of military status upon leaving the country.
