The International Ibsen Scholarships were established by the Norwegian parliament in relation to the central government budget for the fiscal year of 2007. The Ministry of Culture and Church Affairs administers the funds, while the Skien municipality carry out the administrative support functions for the scholarships and review panel.
In 2009, the International Ibsen Scholarships will be awarded for the second time since they were inaugurated. The scholarships are meant to act as incentives for critical discourse in regards to existential and society-related matters concerning Henrik Ibsen. Individuals, organizations or institutions within the artistic or cultural communities are encouraged to apply.
The scholarships are awarded in agreement with a professional review panel. Presentation of the scholarships is staged in Skien on September 11th, 2009 and coincides with the Skien International Ibsen Conference.
In total, scholarship funds amount to NOK 1,000,000.
The applications are to be submitted online, and final deadline is May 1st, 2009.
