According to the latest figures from the Norwegian Seafood Export Council (NSEC), the value of Norwegian seafood exports to Egypt more than doubled from 2004 to 2005.
18/01/2006 :: Recent figures show that the value of Norwegian seafood exports to Egypt more than doubled from 15,8 million NOK in 2004 to 33,1 million NOK in 2005. The amount of seafood imports increased more than threefold from 1234 tonnes in 2004 to 4357 tonnes in 2005.
The rise was due primarily to increased salmon exports, but a marked increase in the exports of trout also contributed significantly to the overall results. There was also a sharp increase in the exports of caviar to Egypt.
2005 was the best year ever for Norwegian seafood exports, totalling 31,7 billion NOK. This is an increase of almost 10 percent compared to 2005. The increase was due primarily to price increases. Farmed fish made up 47% of total seafood exports, which is the highest proportion ever recorded.
