"The Yacoubian Building", the most successful Arabic novel in recent times, is now published in Norwegian.
28/02/2007 :: Alaa al-Aswany, the author of best-selling novel "The Yacoubian Building", on February 27 and 28 visited Norway to promote the Norwegian translation of his book. The novel, that was published in 2002, is the most successful Arabic novel in recent times, and was also turned into a major movie in 2006. So far, the novel has been translated into 17 languages.
The novel describes the lives of the inhabitants of an apartment block in Cairo (The Yacoubian Building), and through these paints a picture of Egyptian society.
Interest in Arabic literature as well as literature on the Arab world and islam has grown enormously in Norway over the last few years.
