Norwegian oil and gas partners on fact-finding mission to Egypt
A Norwegian business delegation represented by Norwegian oil and gas partners (INTSOK), ABB, Aibel, DeepOcean, MRC Global and Ocean Installer visited Cairo from October 16 to 20. The visit was a fact-finding mission to promote Norwegian technology and to explore areas of possible interest in the field of oil and gas in Egypt.
The Norwegian Ambassador to Egypt, H.E. Sten Arne Rosnes, accompanied the delegation to the Egyptian minister of petroleum H.E Tarek El Molla. Ambassador Rosnes pointed out that energy is an important pillar in the bilateral relation between Norway and Egypt. Tarek El Molla informed the delegates about Egypt`s ambitions in becoming an energy hub, and that major transformations to this end are supported by an ongoing economic reform program. H.E. Tarek El Molla was glad to see Norwegian companies in Egypt, and encouraged more businesses to look for possibilities of joint ventures with Egyptian companies.
The Norwegian business delegation said that the Zohr field has served as an eye-opener to the Egyptian market, and that the main advantage of the Norwegian business model in oil and gas is that the industry is represented under one umbrella representing the wide range of specialised competence in Norway.
The Norwegian delegation met with a broad spectre of Egyptian institutions and multilateral companies in the area of oil and gas. Ambassador Rosnes also hosted a luncheon with Egyptian officials, the Norwegian business community in Egypt, and representatives from the banking sector as well as the industry.
